Zorbas – Beautiful green stoneMarina Aretaki, Ph.D. in Modern Greek Philology of the Sorbonne University, Paraskevi Vasiliadis, curator of collections and deputy director of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, present the new graphic novel "ZORBAS, green stone Beauty" by Antonis Nikolopoulos (Soloúp) from "Dioptra" publications with the presence of the creator. An interesting discussion about Nikos Kazantzakis, the conception, creation, and composition of Antonis Nikolopoulos (Soloúp). "How to take on this Dragon?" writes Kazantzakis about Zorba. How to face two dragons today, with Nikos Kazantakis and Zorbas, even using the language of comics to re-render the iconic and much-translated novel Life and State of Alexis Zorbas? In addition to having to fight the myth and the dominant image of the character, as embodied by Anthony Quinn in Michalis Kakogianni's film Zorba the Greek? Life, love, God, death, Dionysus, Buddha, Nietzsche, Bergson, Shakespeare, Dante, Rodin... Soloúp in the graphic novel "ZORBAS, green stone beautiful" does not make a simple metaphor but attempts to retell the episodes of the specific novel. It interferes with the flow and rearranges the iconic stories while at the same time trying to avoid the strong stereotypes of the cinematic Zorba. Thus, following the spirit of the Kazantzakis text, he proposes a new narrative of word and image, a new journey, philosophical, grotesque, and tragic, to the modern reader.
