Southwest Monsoon, Lea Isabelle Skowasch, Nishant Singh, United Kingdom

South-West Monsoon is a short hybrid 2D-3D animated film. It follows Mira, returning to her hometown of Mumbai after many years abroad. As she revisits familiar places and faces, she struggles with a sense of disconnection, feeling as though the city and the people she once knew, have moved on without her. Through a heartfelt and intimate conversation with her sister Isha, who stayed behind, Mira begins to express her feelings of alienation and longing for a sense of belonging. What begins as a visual journey through the places she remembered gradually reveals itself to be grounded in the quiet setting of the two sister's shared bedroom, where the conversation between them has been unfolding all along.

The film is a gentle reflection on memory, change, and identity. It was intended to resonate with teenagers and adult audiences who are familiar with the bittersweet emotions of returning home after a long absence.

A Breach in the Wall, Nicola Smanio, Spencer Taylor, Italy, United States
Blurring the boundaries between inner and outer worlds, this short animated film unfolds as a psychedelic allegory—a dark descent into the twisted complexity of both the system and the self, and a rebellion against the psychological isolation they create.
Echoing the spirit of The Wall, the film paints a surreal landscape where order and obedience clash with imagination and freedom. Through shifting forms and dreamlike sequences, it explores the tension between societal conditioning and the raw, untamed energy of childhood creativity. At its core, it’s a visual manifesto: a call to reclaim the mind from the grey grip of conformity and awaken the forgotten power of the inner child.
Originally conceived as a series of animated sequences for the documentary feature "The Death of Recess" by Spencer Taylor, it tells its own complementary story in this standalone short.

The Art of Storytelling in Comics: You Don't Draw you narrate

Theatre Mikis Theodorakis

The Art of Storytelling in Comics: You Don't Draw, You Narrate

Powered by Vakalo Art & Design College

Comics are, above all, storytelling through images, and as in any narrative, the flow and the way the meaning is conveyed play a decisive role in the reader's experience. Beyond good design or innate talent, what really brings this form of storytelling to life is the proper use of tools such as: knowledge of basic rules of visual communication, staging, panel layout, composition, elaborate management of perspective design, and knowledge of human anatomy as a starting point for character design. Through the preparation of thumbnails, the creator organizes not just images, but scenes with rhythm, direction, and emotional power. Comics are an art that is designed, but above all, conceived and narrated.

Speaker: Nikos Koutsis.
